Dandeli Karnataka

It is located in Uttara Kannada. It is famous for the Black River, also called Kali River. Hubli, at 53km away, has the nearest airport. It is 450km from Bangalore city. It is accessible from Mumbai and Goa, too. The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is a commonly-visited area.

 

Kavala Cave
These limestone caves 25km from Dandeli are dedicated to Shiva. Deep within, you can find a Shiva linga-shaped stalagmite. It is visited by large number of devotees during the nine-day Shivaratri festival. The Kali river flows near the caves.

 

Syke’s Point
It is three km from Ambikanagar and is named after he Englishman Syke who discovered it. The Najahari river joins the Kali here. You can trek up to the place, but entry is restricted by the Karnataka Power Corp who manages it.

 

Syntheri Rock
It is situated on the banks of the Kaneri River. It is 300ft high and is a granite monolith. A lot of birds make it their home. It is only 30km from the Kali Wilderness Camp.

 

Shiroli Peak
It is the highest point in Uttara Kannnada. It is located within the sanctuary and one can get a magnificent view from the peak. There are popular trekking routes to the peak and jungle safaris will offer an adventurous time.
