Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple Mangalore

This beautiful temple is the abode of Gokarnatha, another name of Lord Shiva. It is the only temple in Karnataka built by Sri Narayana Guru. He was a philosopher and social reformer from Kerala. In his visit to the city in 1912, he said that the Billavas of the region should have a temple of their own. And so, the present temple was built by H. Koragappa. The place’s name has an interesting story behind it. The land on which the temple was built was used by Tipu Sultan years ago to graze his horses. It was called Kudre-valli (‘Kudre’ in Kannada means horse). It was later known as Kudroli.
