It is just under 40km from Mangalore. It is a very important Jain centre of worship. The 1,000-pillared temple, aka the Tribhuvana Tilaka Choodamani Basadi, has 1,000 pillars. Out of this, no two are alike. It was built in 1430. Chandranatha is the deity here.
There are many more basadis here, some of them in ruins, though. The Guru Basadi was supposed to have been built by a saint from Shravanabelagola who spotted an image of lord Parswanatha here.
