Mysore Palace

This was the headquarters of the Mysore Maharajas. A palace on the site of the current had burnt down in the late 19th century and this one was designed by Englishman Henry Irwin in 1912. There are a couple of Hindu temples within the palace compounds. There is an archeological office, too. Within the palace, you’ll find paintings and artifacts of the rulers.

There is a garden around the palace, and stalls selling knick-knacks, jewellery and other stuff line the outside of the palace. An interesting things is that every Sunday, from seven to eight in the evening, about a lakh of light bulbs adorn and light up the palace exteriors. It is also seen during Dussehra. To the west is the Jaganmohan Palace which houses the Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery. It has memorabilia and souvenirs from the Wodeyar eras. This palace was built in the mid 19th century and was used a royal hall. The palace also showcases paintings by Raja Ravi Varma.
