Rock Climbing Karnataka Tourism

For the beginners, there is an artificial wall set up at the State Youth Centre in Bangalore where you can first train and then climb actual hills. Ramnagaram, about 50km from Bangalore on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, is one of the most known sites in Karnataka for rock climbing. It has huge granite formations and boulders and is a known spot for climbing. Other granite towers are found in Savandurga and Turalli in Kanakapura.

There are many Jain basadis and cave shrines that might delight rock climbers and mountaineers. The Gangamoola Hill, in Chikmaglur district, is surrounded by thick forests. The three largest rivers of Karnataka, Tunga, Netravati and the Bhadra start from here. There is a shrine dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi and a 1.8-metre high Varaha image within a cave.

Hampi, with its fort and temple ruins on hilltops, is a great place to try your hand at rock climbing. The sandstone cliffs at Badami nearby, too, are interesting.
